You can choose between a flat panel LCD , LED or a regular desktop monitor. 

A 15" monitor costs around Rs 3,800 and the 17", between Rs 5,000 depending on the brand. 

The various brands for monitors are Samsung, Dell, Asus and LG, to name a few. Samsung is the preferred alternative for monitors and is also the leading peripheral components dealer.

Monitors usually come with a three-year warranty.

LED will provide amazing video at any angle, this costs Rs 2000 to Rs 4000 more than LCD monitors.

22" to 24" LED Monitor costs Rs 7000 to Rs 8500

Hard Disk Selection

Hard Disk capacity counts for a great deal for you daily needs.

  

A 500 GB hard disk is sufficient disk space but you may choose an 1 TB variant.

  

The brand SEAGATE is a very reliable brand for hard disks and is preferred by most computer manufacturers and assemblers. The hard disk comes with a three-year warranty. 

If you want to save movies, videos, Games and other big files go for 1 TB Hard Disk. 

Hard Disks comes with 7200 rpm and 4800 rpm, if money is not a constrain go for 7200 rpm hard disk.

Hard Disk does not effect system performance normally, but if you have less than 10% space available in your hard disk, then disaster is not far away.

You always have an option to add 2 more hard disk to your computer, or use external hard disk for larger use.

Check Point : Don't allocate high budget to your Hard Disk while buying computer, this can be upgraded and added anytime you want.

RAM Selection

“IF 1000 People wants to run altogether freely in a Haphazard Way they need 10 football grounds of space.” Same is the case with RAM, the more it is the better is the system’s speed and performance. 

RAM (Random Access Memory) is the memory available for use by programmes on a computer. 

The RAM chip comes in capacities of 512 MB, 1 GB, 2 GB and even 4 GB and higher. Today most computers function efficiently with 2 GB RAM, though 8 GB RAM does offer you an edge. 

There are two memory slots for RAM in your motherboard. It is always advised to go for two equal RAM in both the slots. 

The memory technologies in use are DDR RAM, DDR II RAM, DDR III RAM, and SD RAM. Latest is 1666 MHZ DDR3 RAM

Check Before You Buy 

1. RAM also has a cloak frequency at which it works, today 1333 MHZ DDR3 RAM are very popular. I suggest you should go for 1666MHZ because the difference in cost is very less. 

2. Make sure that your motherboard supports the RAM you are purchasing. 

3. As a thumb rule, always go in for a minimum of 1-card 2 GB RAM. Later on you can easily add another 2 / 4 GB.

Processor Selection

Processor to Computer is like Heart and Brain to our body. 

World is dominated by two processor companies INTEL and AMD. 

The Intel chips range from the very basic Celeron chip to the Pentium ,Centrino processor to Second Generation i3, i5 and i7 processors. 

 AMD has a chip called Athlon, which is slightly cheaper than the higher end Intel chips. The new versions are x2 , x4, x6 to x8. 

 Most users prefer Intel Pentium chips to Athlon as the latter heats up soon and isn't as efficient as a Pentium 4 chip. Also, the Athlon chip based systems need extra fans to cool the system. This problem helped Intel to exploit the processor market and remain No 1. 

However with the advancement in cooling systems, spending Rs 500 on cooling is better trade than paying Rs 5000 extra for same speed. You might want to consider the Athlon chip with the motherboard would cost you less than its INTEL counterpart. 

Check Before You Buy: 

1. Decide why you want to buy a computer, whether for office use or for gaming purpose. If you are looking for high end graphics, then go for high end processors. For simple work then go for i3 or x4 processor.    

2. Check the cache memory available in the processor you buy. The higher the memory the better it is. 

3. We rarely upgrade processor of our system, so think long term before you buy. 

4. If you are looking for High end gaming go for AMD x6 T1090 / 75 processor. 

Though the processor speed plays a crucial role, you need not have the latest and fastest one available. If a processor with a slightly lesser core speed can do just as well for your demands, go for it. 

Make sure the chips are box packed with a serial number to ensure they are original.

AMD x6 processors will cost you Rs 9000 to Rs 12000

AMD x4 processors will cost you Rs 4000 to Rs 6000

Intel i3 and i5 processors will cost you Rs 6000 to Rs 12000

Motherboard Selection

As the name suggest, it is the mother of your computer. It controls all the components of your computer and offers various multimedia and other functionality to your system.

It is the large circuit board into which the Central Processing Unit, memory boards and peripheral cards are plugged. It is the most vital part of any computer as it holds and connects all your peripherals and add-ons to give you upgrade options and support for future technologies.

Check Before You Buy:

1. Check whether it comes with all the necessary options, support for upgrade-ability and extra slots for memory and other add-on cards.

2. Check whether it supports your Multimedia Cards that you plan to buy in near future

3. Check its model number and also processor compatibility.

4. If you want to add additional sound card, make sure that the motherboard supports the same.

5. To be with the latest motherboard, thumb rule is to check the series. eg: 880, 890 etc.

Simple Motherboard with all basic features will cost Rs 2500 - Rs 3500.

Advance Motherboard for Gaming and general purpose will cost Rs 5000 to Rs 7500
